About me
In 1976, at the age of only16 years, I joined up with the band the Foundations who had several hits, namely “Build Me up Buttercup” No 1 single, “Baby, Now That I Found You”.In 1977 that tour brought me to the attention of Marc Bolan, T.Rex with whom I went on to record the album “Dandy in the Underworld”. Suddenly I was in demand and while I continued to foster ambitions of putting together my own line-up I knew that I still have to pay my dues. Continuing the session path from 1978 through to 1982 I worked with some outstanding musicians recording the “Walking on Sunshine” album with Eddy Grant. 1979 Recorded an album with Camel’s Peter Bardens. Also I was the front-man with the touring band. 1980 Toured with Peter Green (ex Fleetwood Mac) 1981 I returned to forming my own outfit under the name of Asia, touring England and Europe.
I met Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy) and was invited to be part of his solo touring band and co song writer. For the next four years we worked together up until Lynott’s untimely death.
Toured Africa, Gambia and Dakar with Abdull Kabirr and Youssou N’Dour.
Hugh Cornwall from the Stranglers (hit single “Golden Brown”) was invited to see me perform with my own outfit. Highly impressed he invited me to play guitar on his solo album “Wolf” with Jules Holland.
Toured with Sally Oldfield, Mike Oldfield’s sister, three European tours.
Moved to Helsinki, Finland and formed a band called Buffalo Soldier. Having completed a successful album and tour I returned to the UK.
Took time out from sessions and touring and concentrated more on song writing and musical theory.
- 1990 Formed a three piece outfit called the Third Man, supporting bands to such as Wishbone Ash and Saxon. Radio 1 sessions with Tommy Vance.
Joined up with Seal originally in 1987 and played guitar on his early demos, then performed on his first album featuring the hits “Crazy”, “Killer” and “Future Love Paradise”. I continued to work with Seal up to 1994, promoting and touring and co-writing his second album entitled “Seal II” featuring the hits “Kiss From A Rose” and “Prayer For The Dying”. I received a B.M.I. song writing award for the song “Prayer for the Dying”.
Whilst recording Seal’s second album at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studio, I was invited by Daniel Lanois to play acoustic guitar on Peter Gabriel’s “US” album.
Toured and recorded 3 albums with the very talented black English artist Andrew Roachford featuring the hits “Cuddly Toy”, “Family Man”, “Only to Be with You”. I am also featured on his work the “Roachford Files 2000”.
Embarked on lending my talents and services to the Rwandian Relief Charity Appeal which featured artists like Larry Addler, Paul Carrack, Jimmy Ruffin, Edwin Star, Nik Kershaw, Yazz and a whole host of other stars. Together we raised quite a bit of revenue via record, video, T.V. and radio sales.
Went to New York to co-write songs with some reputable scribers such as Pete Sinfield (writer of Celine Dion’s “Think Twice”) and Joan Osborne, singer of the hit “What If God Was One of Us”.
