About me
At the same time as attending Oldham College’s Production Arts course (aged approx. 15-17), an Amateur Production which I helped to Design & Program was nominated for a NODA Award for Lighting Design, I had worked on a sell-out production at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and also worked on a production which went to the National Theatre (and Bolton Octagon) as part of the NT Connections programme. During college I had already start to pick up various bits of freelance work as a Sound or Lighting Technician. When leaving Oldham College in 2016 I was immediately offered a role as a Casual Venue Technician with them where I was engaged more or less full time with them and frequently fulfilled Supervisory/Duty Technician roles. I also spent some free time running sessions with the students on basic sound/lighting principals.
In 2018 I became a Casual Technician with ATG at the Opera House in Manchester, and in March 2020 I was asked to step up as the Deputy Chief Electrician at the Palace Theatre in Manchester. Unfortunately this was somewhat thwarted due to theatre closing as a result of COVID-19, but this year I have fulfilled the role as Acting Chief Electrician for some time and we have been very much in the full swing of things.
To summarise my experience after leaving college, I had quickly been put into positions of responsibility leading get-ins & fit-ups, maintaining electrical equipment, hiring equipment, working within budgets and ensuring Health & safety is adhered to at all times. Especially with my recent role as Chief Electrician I have spent a lot of time managing small to medium teams of people with the added requirement to ensure COVID safety.
As well as my high-grade qualification in Production Arts, I am trained in; Working at Height/FPE, First Aid & Defibrillator, Team Leading, Team Decision Making and Communication, and have a great understanding in Lifting and Work Equipment Regulations due to Performer Flying and Rigging
for Aerialists training. I have vast experience in various roles undertaken as a freelance technicians with a huge range of Sound, Lighting, Video and Networking equipment.
With my role as Acting Chief Electrician ending shortly, I am seeking full time employment working on productions either at a producing theatre or on tour/ on the west-end on Number 1 productions.
I have a very good knowledge of RF equipment, networking, facilities and general sound IO equipment so I am a confident troubleshooter. I have a fair amount of experience working with mic fitting, monitoring and covering tracks. I have done small venue and large arena tours with bands so have decent backline equipment knowledge.
I have operated small scale musicals in the past and have experience mixing bands as resident sound engineer at a couple of venues but I wouldn’t say I have proper mix experience for musicals although I am very keen to start learning.
