About me

Jonathan trained at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and graduated in 2001 with a 1st Class BA (Hons) in Technical Theatre, specialising in Lighting Design. He is currently fully freelance as a Lighting Designer, Producer and Production Manager and has created the Lighting for almost 100 productions over the past 20 years.

Since graduating, he has worked extensively as a Lighting Designer at various venues around the UK with projects comprising of professional, amateur and youth theatre productions. Further details of these can be found via www.jonsimpsontheatre.com.

He has extensive experience in working with drama and dance schools having previously lit for RADA, Mountview, North London Dance Studio and most recently SLP College and ALRA.

Venue based roles have included Technical Supervisor for Dacorum Pavilion (2001), Technical Manager for Millfield Arts Centre (2004 - 2006), Technical & Operations Manager for Camberley Theatre (2006-2010) and Operations Manager for The Capitol, Horsham (2010-2017). Venue based experience includes adapting touring lighting designs and technical requirements and all duties associated with the day to day management of busy receiving venues.

Jonathan also worked as a Business Development Manager for 'Stage Electrics'. where he designed and specified lighting for projects such as a flexible intelligent lighting system for Royal Horticultural halls, London and a number of schools.

As a Production Manger, Jonathan has been responsible for numerous professional Pantomimes and touring productions.

Recently he produced a one night touring show with The Wam Bam Club which comprised of a fusion of Burlesque, Circus and Comedy. Previous work as a producer includes a musical stage adaptation of the children's story 'Dear Santa'.
