About me
I am a trained biologist, journalist, and filmmaker, with experience of finding and producing stories that provide a human perspective on environmental issues. I have experience working as a reporter, shooting, and editing my own news packages as well as directing and producing a short investigative documentary. I just completed a masters in International Journalism, specialising in broadcast and documentary.I have a passion for creating engaging content. As part of my masters, I worked as a reporter and producer, shooting and editing my own news packages and finding interesting local stories. For my dissertation, I produced a 15-minute film investigating exotic animals kept in the UK, focusing on Britain’s last lion tamer. I carried out background research, found archive footage and organised and conducted the interviews and shoots. I also wrote a feature on raptor persecution in the UK, interviewing NGOs, North Wales’ rural police chief, landowners, and leading academics.
I have extensive research experience, both academic and journalistic and am proficient with broadcast cameras, DSLRs editing and a range of IT software including: the adobe suite. In 2020 I spent 6 months working as a researcher for a Bristol-based filmmaking team making a documentary on HS2.
I have detailed knowledge of ecology and conservation from studying a biology degree and this enables me to interpret scientific studies and communicate them in an accessible way. As a trained biologist, I have skills in research and data analysis. I spent time working as a field researcher studying reticulated pythons in the Bornean rainforests, and during my dissertation I studied the effects of plastic pollution on river birds in Cardiff.
I have experience of creating content across different platforms, including videos for Instagram and YouTube, blogs and photographs for Twitter and Instagram. I am a keen photographer and run a wildlife Instagram account @wildlifelouie. My photographs have been featured by BBC Springwatch, BBC Countryfile and the Wildlife Trusts. I am an ambassador for the Rivers’ Trust and create social media content for the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust
