About me
I am a dedicated and enthusiastic sewing assistant who has recently completed Theatre Costume Making at the Northern College of Costume. Previous to starting this course I graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a BA(Hons) in Performance Costume Design and spent just under two years as a wardrobe assistant at QDOS Entertainment. I am an excellent hand and machine sewer with an interest in embroidery and hand finishings. I have experience with both industrial and domestic sewing machines and overlockers and can use and maintain both confidently. I can use MS Office proficiently, regularly using Excel to create budget sheets and Word for general admin. At QDOS my responsibilities covered altering, laundering, cutting and constructing costumes for pantomimes around the country. I worked to meet high expectations for quality and productivity and adapted to unconventional briefs under pressure. I increased my skills in altering costumes to fit a broad range of performers and working with a wide variety of materials including stretch, fur, and leather.
As a student at Edinburgh College of Art, I learned to balance and prioritise projects, splitting my time between academic assignments and active involvement in student theatre which culminated in my being elected Wardrobe Manager for the Edinburgh University Theatre Society's Bedlam Theatre in my final year. As Bedlam Wardrobe Manager I was responsible for the costume stock held at the theatre, organising rentals to student, amateur, and professional productions, and general maintenance and laundering. I supported show teams and designers within the society, helping them get the most out of costuming their show while designing and making for shows myself. Most notably I led a small team to make dresses, breeches, frock coats and accessories for The Crucible which was performed in a barn built inside the theatre. In both student theatre and in my university projects I met tight deadlines and learned to prioritise as circumstances change. My academic studies lent towards creative problem solving, material experimentation and exploring new ideas on a foundation of good pattern cutting and construction skills, at the Northern College of Costume I have been able to solidify those skills and apply them to period costumes for theatre.
I am available for wardrobe assistant and making work and am willing to travel/relocate
