About me
I graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in BSc Fashion Technology with an additional diploma in Industrial Training. This course has allowed me to flourish in both my creative and technical abilities. I am very keen to work in the costume industry after realising that this is the career path I would like to follow in the fashion industry.In my third year at University I participated in the ‘Women of Gunsgreen’ project in which the brief was to design a costume to represent one of the women from the house. My character, Philadelphia, was from the 18th century and had 18 children. My research showed that clothing was expensive and most women had roughly 1-3 gowns, therefore I considered limited resources and adaptability when designing the costume. I came up with the idea to incorporate a single stomacher panel into the design. This would allow her to be more versatile and change her look without her having to buy a new dress.
During my visit to Gunsgreen, what really stood out to me was the restored wallpaper. I had this design digitally printed onto fabric and used it to make the stomacher panel. I was delighted to be one of 6 groups chosen in my class to have my costume displayed at the exhibition.
This project was a pivotal moment for me in realising that I would love to work in costume. I absolutely love movies and musicals and with my love of fashion and making garments, working in costume would allow me to combine all of my hobbies and interests.
During my degree I gained additional experience in my industrial placement year out. During this time, I developed many new skills and gained invaluable knowledge. As an intern at Obscure Couture my main duties were pattern making and constructing sample garments under pressure of strict deadlines. I helped out during photoshoots and fashion shows and assisted in dressing the models.
My bridal placement at Kinnies focused on being accurate and precise when applying crystals and bead work to figure skating and wedding dresses.
My most recent job experience at Anne Priscilla Bridal, Glasgow, concentrated more on being very organised and providing an excellent customer service with a main goal of selling garments. I dressed many brides in wedding gowns; this initially involved taking standard sized sample gowns and adjusting them to the figure of the bride for maximum effect. Such one-to-one experience with the customers allowed me to strengthen my interpersonal and communication skills.

Working to briefs, Researching, Sketching, Designing; Creating Designs using Adobe Software, Drafting Patterns, Sewing; Beading, Applying Crystals; Creating Garment Specifications, Communication, Listening, Interpersonal, Team-working, Problem Solving, Prioritising, Working to Strict Deadlines; Working Under Pressure;
