About me
Since an early age, I found myself writing stories, intrigued by the details in composing other worlds and the quiet unveiling of characters’ inner lives. The development of my craft as a writer deepened at Lisbon Theatre and Film School, maturing my storytelling voice through specializing in screenwriting and editing, but it was my aspiration to become a film director which lead me to complete a Masters in Film Directing at the University of South Wales (UK).In this journey, I realized how my continued studies and practice in screenwriting had made me a stronger director and editor and one concerned with a minimalistic style of Cinema, focused on shaping emotion and dramatic tension through subtle suggestions; on exploring story undertones in visually detailed atmospheres; on letting a performance breathe while aware of the poignancy of when to cut. This is the eclectic mindset of the writer-director-editor, accutely understanding story drama and rhythm in all its shapes over the filmmaking stages.
In this vein, I’ve directed and edited both documentary and fiction shorts. In 2019, I was one of the Biennal of Contemporary Arts participants on the Film workshop “Spirits, Shadows and Reflections” lead by the award-winning director João Salaviza. In 2020, I co-wrote a short film accepted for a creative supporting programme at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and recently, my short film “In a House, At Night” premiered at Soho London Film Festival moving onto the independent Festival circuit. In my work, I’m excited by the dialogue of ideas with other collaborators and auteurs, whether as a director or editor. In both roles, I seek to find unglimpsed possibilities in the raw material, challenging expectations in film narrative and form so as to create thought-provoking moments that incite the viewer to question rather than reach clear answers. Film should be a mysterious unfinished sentence, started by the filmmaker who then invites the audience’s imagination to write its ending.
