With a base in both Manchester and London, 1956 Theatre have the belief that there are no new stories, just new ways of telling them - our company ethos is simply about story-telling - to produce high quality, intelligent and, above all, enjoyable theatre which will captivate and immerse its audience for an experience they will remember.

Our stories - whether adapted from works already in existence, inspired by plays, books, films or imagined and penned entirely from scratch by our team of writers will have been told, felt, heard, experienced and shared before. We believe that all stories are shared experiences - our job is simply to tell them differently and, above all else, make sure that they are heard, felt and experienced again.

With a creative, insightful and unapologetic team of writers we produce bold, ambitious work which will evoke thought and emotion. Inspired by the wave of change sparked in May 1956 following the premier of John Osborne's "Look Back in Anger," our company aims to challenge the conventions of contemporary theatre, create interest, inspire change and have impact.
