The ACM Gospel Choir was formed in 2005 at the Academy of Contemporary Music by vocal coach Mark De-Lisser.
They reached the semi-finals of BBC One’s Last Choir Standing in 2008; and went on to tour with Russell Watson, sing with Beverley Knight, record with Robbie Williams and sing for HRH The Queen on numerous occasions. The choir also released their debut album of contemporary songs in 2008 being described as ‘new gospel’.
The ACM Gospel Choir rose to fame during the BBC series Last Choir Standing. Easily the youngest, hippest choir on the show – the 28 students are mostly in their teens and early 20s at the time – ACM brought a new slant to gospel staples and contemporary covers.
As musical director, Mark De-Lisser rearranged the songs to give them a modern, pop feel, while the energy of the young choir had more in common with a rock group than their more traditional competitors.
“The choir reflects the personalities of everyone involved,” says De-Lisser. “They’re all are very current and cool, so the choir is current and cool too. Their energy and vibe comes from the fact that they are all musicians having the time of their lives, living their dreams. They just all love to sing.”
With this youthful energy and amazing vocal talent the choir have since shared the stage with Micheal Ball, Mika, Pixie Lott, JLS, Diversity, Gabriella Cilmi and Alexandra Burke to name a few.
