Auckland Theatre Company is the largest professional theatre company in New Zealand. Over the last 17 years Auckland Theatre Company has enjoyed its position as the most popular producer of professional theatre in Auckland. Through its mainbill season of seven or eight plays (over 170 performances annually), the Company has audiences of over 75,000 drawn from throughout the Auckland region.

Auckland Theatre Company is the only theatre company in New Zealand with a dedicated Literary Unit. In 2009 Auckland Theatre Company will commission new plays as well as support the development of more than 10 other plays through monthly playreadings and THE NEXT STAGE workshop series of semi-staged readings.

Auckland Theatre Company serves the Auckland community by providing school matinees, in-school workshops, community workshops, script and professional development activities.

Auckland Theatre Company's Education Unit undertakes a number of community outreach initiatives, which bring the Company into direct contact with the region's young people.

10,000 students from schools throughout the greater Auckland region are able to experience the best of professional theatre in New Zealand. ATC Education Unit demonstrates the Company's forward-looking approach to nurture theatre audiences for the future.
