Bath Light Operatic Group was founded in 1948 with a girl’s only performance of Hiawatha. Later men's voices were added, and the constitution of the group as it is now, took place in 1951. The original aims of the society were to promote interest in musical productions, to assist young people in the art of singing, drama, movement and stagecraft within those productions and, at the same time, provide entertainment for themselves and the wider public, including assisting local charities wherever possible.

Over the years the group has achieved much critical success, winning Evening Post Rose Bowl Awards for Pickwick in 1977, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers in 1985, West Side Story in 1987, Kiss Me Kate in 1988 and Barnum in 1994.
