The Cochrane Theatre is a receiving and producing house that aims to present all aspects of the performing arts within a proscenium arch.

The theatre opened in 1964 and was named after its founder Jeannetta Cochrane who was a theatre practitioner specialising in costume and scenery design. She taught at Central School of Arts and Craft and through her persistence persuaded London County Council Education Authority to build a theatre attached to the school.

The Cochrane Theatre is now owned by the University of the Arts London, which brings together under one umbrella, five of the world's most famous colleges of art, design and communication: Camberwell College of Art, Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, Chelsea College of Art and Design, London College of Fashion and London College of Communication.

The Cochrane Theatre produces work with graduating students of BA (Hons) Design for Performance, MA Performance Design & Practice, London College of Fashion, and Drama Centre London.

We seek to challenge the preconceptions of the space and the definitions of theatre, to re-discover the fundamental forms and to embrace new technologies, to encourage a London wide audience to experience live theatre through the presentation of a mixed programme including University of the Arts London Platforms, comedy, dance, drama, musical theatre, film, and opera.
