About Concordia
Concordia is the brainchild of Gillian Humphreys. An international singer and broadcaster, Gillian established the Foundation in 1994 out of her real concern that it is important to build bridges through music and the arts and to provide much needed concert platforms for new, emerging young artists.
Our aim are:
* To initiate and develop educational and artistic links between the UK and other countries
* To encourage, support and promote new, emerging artists
* To arrange exchange visits between Great Britain and overseas
New, emerging artists need more than talent and qualifications to make headway in a very tough world. On average over 100 musicians each year benefit from Concordia’s assistance on their way to successful careers.
Concordia presents concerts and puts on special performances in the UK and overseas, to give new, talented artists the opportunity to perform in front of large audiences, which they often cannot find at the start of their career.
Obstacles and barriers are crossed, to bring music, friendship and optimism across the world. Gillian Humphreys travels extensively. Every stop in every country provides an opportunity for her to promote the vision of the Concordia Foundation by presenting concerts and events in those countries, often for local charities.
Raising money for others is a part of Concordia’s mission and its many projects include: the Concordia Ward in a Macmillan Cancer Relief hospice in Wales; Save the Children Fund in Argentina; the Salaj District Hospital, Romania; the Christian Praise Children’s Home, Philippines; the Spastic Centre, New South Wales and many more.
Diverse and imaginative programmes offer unique opportunites for artists and audiences alike, such as Shakespeare and Love - a celebration of the romance of Shakespeare; Patti, Patti, Patti - an internationally acclaimed portrayal of the 19th century diva Adelina Patti; The Still Voice Sings Within - celebrating the universal spirit of classical music.
In the UK and abroad: Vietnam - reopening the newly renovated Ho Chi Minh Opera House and launch of the Concordia Concerto series in Hanoi; musical workshops at orphanages in Romania and the Philippines; historical, cultural exchanges with America and Spain; Dr Barnado’s Charity Concert, Australia. Concert venues in the UK have included the Waterloo Chamber Windsor Castle, Barbican Arts Centre, St John’s Smith Square and the South Bank.
Anything is possible: solutions and ideas replace problems. The Concordia Foundation’s events and performances are highly creative and individual. Putting together a unique show is second nature to the organisation. A spontaneous approach ensures that fitting in an unscheduled visit or fulfilling an unusual request is done with ease and skill. There is no shortage of ideas or musical talent and every performance is a treat - for the audience and performers - and raises money to support young artists and educational projects.
