Crooked Pieces was founded in 2012 by Bethan Clark and Charlotte Donachie. Frustrated by the lack of female written work currently produced in the UK, they decided to stop whinging and do something about it.

Based in London, Crooked Pieces produce and perform work by female writers, aiming to redress the balance and celebrate the female voice in performance.

The company launched in September 2012 with a sell-out production of Sarah Kane's 4.48 Psychosis. The focus then shifted toward new talent, developing and showcasing work from a diversity of female playwrights, spoken-word artists, filmakers and songwriters through PIECE BY PIECE - a platform for emerging work.

Crooked Pieces believes in collaboration, bringing together the shared energies and ideas of artists and performers to create innovative, evolutionary and challenging work.
