Doppelganger was created one year ago in attempt to fill the need for new live theatre in Bournemouth and Dorset generally. We are a not-for-profit theatre production company and specifically a New Writing company working towards creating a vibrant theatre culture in Bournemouth, hoping to tour our work nationally.
The name Doppelganger was coined because of my love of doppelganger stories – Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde, The Double Life of Veronique, Fight Club, Heart of Darkness, Strangers on a Train, Vertigo, Persona, The Woman in White, Confessions of a Justified Sinner – the list is endless.
Doppelganger is now the resident company of the Winchester Arts Pub in Bournemouth, and stages new theatre writing by emerging and established playwrights. We are particularly interested in work from Dorset-based playwrights and nurturing innovative writing through Doppelganger Dialogues, our monthly theatre writing workshops which free to anyone who wishes to come along. We hope to develop selected projects originated in these workshops through rehearsed readings and development workshops into full productions.
We are collaborating with student groups from Bournemouth University and the Arts University Bournemouth and hope to forge creative pathways where programmes of student playwriting can be performed under the auspices of Doppelganger Productions. We look to advance education in theatre and encourage cultural understanding across all ages and communities.
