EBOS was founded in 1952 when a group of friends felt that Bracknell lacked the facility of a musical society to perform light operettas. They canvassed the neighbourhood and EBOS was formed. The first production, HMS Pinafore, was performed in 1953.

During the first nine years, EBOS mounted one production a year, each a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, mainly performed at the Victoria Hall, Bracknell. As the membership increased, so did the number of shows per year and also the range of shows, until in 1976 EBOS produced Oliver, The Mikado and Guys and Dolls in one year. It is now the society's aim to produce two major shows a year, one to be an operetta and the other a modern musical with a dance element.

After many years of nomadic existence, we felt we had arrived home when the Wilde Theatre (for which EBOS had actively campaigned for nearly 20 years) was built and we now feel privileged to have this as our regular venue.

Behind the scenes lies the heart of EBOS, in our clubhouse at Pinewood. The members who appear on stage rehearse at Pinewood regularly on Tuesday and Wednesday and the Technical Crew works at Pinewood on Monday and Thursday, either working on the building itself, or building scenery; Friday is a general night.

Apart from our major shows, we have performed pantomimes and music halls, where we have helped raise money for many charities. Our annual "Carol Sings" are not only popular with the local community, but also an excellent way of raising funds for a variety of charities.

The Society has a very active social committee, both as a fund-raising arm and also, very importantly, to organise social events for the society's members and their family and friends. Our Secretary organises many theatre trips, both locally and further afield, as far as Buxton and Edinburgh.

Over the years, we have built up a substantial wardrobe as well as an excellent scenery and lighting store. Many of these items are available for hire.
