When Gateway Theatre Company were commissioned in 2001 as resident producers at the Broadway Theatre, our first task was to establish a reputation for excellence and to bring a new lease of life to the neglected Broadway Studio.
We opened boldy, with an ambitious season of acclaimed productions: Ben Elton’s Popcorn, Willy Russell’s Educating Rita, David Mamet’s Oleanna and Brian Friel’s Dancing at Lughnasa, to name only the first few.
Since that time we have mounted lavish musicals, Cabaret and Company, radically re-imagined the classics, with Hamlet and Macbeth, and introduced challenging contemporary work to the Studio, like Patrick Marber’s Closer and Rebecca Pritchard’s Yard Gal. Gateway Theatre Company, in this innovative partnership with the Broadway Theatre Management, put the Studio on the map.
