Maya Productions makes theatre that reflects and celebrates diversity.

Our vision is of a world where people of all ages, abilities, cultures and classes can be inspired by and contribute to theatre as audiences and theatre makers.

Working from the cultural heart of South East London we create excellent productions and projects that explore the local landscape and nurture an appetite for national and global ideas.

Background
The company was founded by Sita Ramamurthy and Christopher Preston, in 1994 with the purpose of encouraging work by Black and Asian playwrights. Over fifteen years the company developed diverse writers and scripts, staged readings and productions in London and nationally, produced British rural tours of Maori Storytellers from New Zealand and delivered education projects for the young people of East London. The company was central to the cultural landscape of Hackney and was a key member of the Hackney literature cluster, producing the ‘Write to Ignite’ Hackney Word over four years several times.
Suzanne Gorman was appointed Artistic Director after a long association with the company. Suzanne is a Director, Dramaturg and Producer with twenty years’ experience in theatre. Most recently she led the creative learning department at Soho Theatre where she directed over fifteen new writing productions, produced theatre arts projects in schools and youth clubs, ran a young writers programme and pioneered the company’s groundbreaking site specific and digital work with local communities.
