North Star Productions (“North Star” or the “Company”) is a British film production company which has been established to bring together individuals with a proven track record in producing profitable British TV and film.

North Star’s management team includes: Neil Fitzmaurice, co-writer of the hit Channel 4 TV comedy “Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights”, as well as writer of “Going Off Big Time” which recently premiered on Sky Box Office; Jim Doyle, the director of “Going Off Big Time” who has also won awards at the Galway and Cherborg Film Festivals; and Tony Fitzmaurice, Associate Producer of “Going Off Big Time”.

History & Track Record

“Going Off Big Time” was written by, and starred, Neil Fitzmaurice, and was the first of a series of films (such as “The 51st State” starring Samuel L. Jackson), shot in Liverpool. The film was produced on a budget of £500,000 and took just five weeks to shoot using virtually all local cast and crew. The film has gone on to enjoy further success on DVD and video formats and was recently premiered on Sky Movie Max. Sales continue around the world and its debut screening on terrestrial TV took place on Channel 4 in 2005.

In May 2000, “Going Off Big Time” premiered at The Cannes Film Festival and it’s success there led to a distribution deal with Entertainment Films. The film made its national cinema debut on 22 September 2000 and enjoyed huge cinema and critical success, being nominated in four categories at the British Independent Film Awards including ‘Best Newcomer On Screen’ (Neil Fitzmaurice), and ‘Best Achievement In Production’ (Tony Fitzmaurice). The film attracted positive reviews with one reviewer claiming “Going Off Big Time” has “…razor sharp wit, matched with razor sharp violence means that such comparisons with Tarantino are, for once, not unjustified…” (Nev Pierce, Total Film).
