'The Last Superheroes' is a joyful comedy-drama feature about breaking through the chains to find fulfilment and happiness. Three superheroes swap their Acrrington roots for the freedom of London...and a wish to fight 'proper' crime again! However, in a city where a superhero is a felonious activity, they instead find the love of a good woman, a 'bad' woman and a close knit fraternity.

Our production company 'Not Waving but Drowning' was set up in 2010 by two BBC directors with the ultimate aim of making a feature film. In that time, we've produced 5 short films, all of which have been shown at international festivals. Our most recent, The Hapless Love Life of Jesus Grey (2012) was premiered and won Best Foreign Short at Los Angeles Comedy Festival earlier in the year. The Gay in the Attic (2012) was shortlisted for many awards including the IMDB New Filmmaker Award and won Best Short Film at the Cofilmic comedy awards.

We have decided to make our first feature very much in the same way we have produced our shorts, that is, with a tiny amount of money and a whole lot of hard work. This way we have the freedom to make the film we want to make and with the cast we want to work with. Not only that, but The Last Superheroes cannot be a glossy, medium budget film. That's not the reality of these characters. Instead, something gritty, simple with a charm based almost entirely on performance will be what makes it work.

Despite our desire to live like John Cassavettes, we still need some dosh and we've been doing quite well. But we need all the indiegogo-ers to help push us over the line. Shoot day 1 starts at the end of September so with your help, we will be able to make it to the final shoot day.

Whatever we get will go into this movie....we cut our cloth (or cape) to fit so the more we have the more this movie can grow.
