What if walls could speak? This was the question posed by Paul McLaughlin and Martyn Roberts of a hotel suite in Brisbane, Australia. Whilst on tour, the two practitioners conceived the idea of creating a site-specific show to be performed in a luxury hotel suite.

This show would use the actual location of a hotel suite as inspiration for a new work of theatre - HOTEL. Led by Producer Paul McLaughlin, a group of New Zealand's finest stage talent spent a five week devising period creating the characters and situations that make up HOTEL. The group included McLaughlin and Roberts, as well as Carol Smith, Gabrielle Anwen, Gavin Rutherford and Lucy Briant.

HOTEL is performed in a real, luxury hotel suite to audiences of only 20 per show. The play explores the lives of five different characters who have spent time in the suite at some time. The play uses 100% NZ music to soundscape their time in the room as they exist in the space and the audience gradually work out who they are and why they may be there.

Amy Straker joined the company for the Taupo Festival season in 2008. Site Specific also have an incredible new show called 'Salon'.
