The Forest of Black are a creative production company based in Glasgow and working across the UK and beyond. Our background is in creating video content for music – Promo Videos, Concert Films, Documentary and DVD. We also make stylish adverts and promotional content for our commercial clients and in 2014 we WILL be making films.The company was formed in 2003 when Director Blair Young put together the much acclaimed Belle & Sebastian retrospective DVD ‘Fans Only’. Producer Beth Allan joined Blair towards the end of that year and since then they’ve made work for a host of Scottish and UK artists (Belle & Sebastian, Biffy Clyro, Camera Obscura, Franz Ferdinand, Idlewild, Sons & Daughters) and for most of the big UK Labels (Warner, Sony BMG, Polydor, Island, Domino, 4AD, Rough Trade, Roadrunner). Other work has included clients such as Tennent’s, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, MacMillan Books & Glasgow School of Art. Director Michael Sherrington joined us in 2008, developing into a really skilled camera operator and editor on our projects as well as directing his own work. He’s made some beautiful videos for FOB and is developing a documentary that will shoot in 2014. Then in 2013, Oscar Sansom signed up too. He’s been directing some very stylish videos for the new clutch of bands coming out of Glasgow at the moment as well honing his skills (and earning his crust) making commercials. We are based in a quaint little black and white mews cottage on a cobbled lane in Glasgow’s west end. We share it with some other film and theatre makers and creative types. It’s a romantic vision but the reality is that it’s properly freezing for 6 months of the year, keeping us alert and hungry. We are pretty approachable so do get in touch if you want to discuss a project. We all work through the company but also Direct and Produce as freelancers.
