The Theatre of Comedy Company was formed in 1983 by the playwright Ray Cooney, together with thirty leading actors, directors and writers. They took out a lease on the Shaftesbury Theatre with the ambition to present the very best of British comedy writing, both at the Shaftesbury and other West End theatres.
