The company has built up a healthy platform since 2002 by producing quality short films that have been funded by the UK Film Council, The Arts Council of Wales and the BBC. It has also established great relationships with The Film Agency for Wales, ITV and Film 4.
In 2006 tornado films was asked to oversee the management and produCD and Keyboardction of a slate of 12 low budget films with a combined budget of £4.2Million.
Since 2006 Tornado has spent particular time focusing on Film in the digital age. Recently, the company was successful in obtaining grant funding for new digital Cinema technology. This includes the New 4k Red One digital Cinema camera along with the post production workflow to support it. Tornado is also leading the way forward in digital distribution. Since early 2007 Tornado has encoded and co-distributed two feature films in the new Digital Cinema MXF Jpeg 2000 format.
Tornado Films has also attracted private development finance to build up a slate of content ready for production.
In the Summer of 2009, Tornado Films begins production of an original musical provisionally entitled ‘Summertime’. This has been financed through a number of alternative funding sources. This is scheduled for completion in March 2010.
The ambition within the company is clear. We are going to produce commercially viable feature films for the global market using the very latest in digital cinema technology.
