Who are The Travesty Players?

The Travesty Players were established in mid-2004 when the company's artistic director gathered a small ensemble of actors in the area of Wood Green to start rehearsals for the company’s inaugural musical production What the Dickens?, a production partially sponsored by the London Charles Dickens Museum that took place at Burgh House, Hampstead for the 2004 Christmas Season.

The company’s Artistic Director and in-house writer, Nicola Jane Buttigieg, is an active associate of both the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters (BACS) and of London’s Mercury Musical Developments (MMD), a musical theatre development organisation under the patronage of Dame Judi Dench, Sir Cameron Macintosh and Stephen Sondheim based in London's West End. She also works with the London Musical Theatre Creatives (LMTC) ensemble who produce seasonal cabaret-style showcase events of their own material.

The company has drawn artists from both local and international drama and music schools. These include Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, The Royal Academy of Music, Birmingham School of Acting, London Studio Centre, East 15 Acting School, The London School of Musical Theatre, Guildford School of Acting, The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Northwestern School of Music (Chicago, USA), National Institute of Dramatic Art (Sydney, Australia), Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Brisbane, Australia), and University of Windsor School of Music (Ontario, Canada).

Sponsors of company projects to date include Arts Council England, Really Useful Theatres, The Thomas Hardy Society (UK) & Association (USA), Dorset County Museum, West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village, Sutton Hoo, Malvern Crest Ltd, London Metropolitan Archives, The London Charles Dickens Museum and Protocol Teachers Ltd.
