About me
Having studied costume as my degree, I have been given many opportunities to learn and develop my skills in historical and performance costume. I am a committed and driven maker with a passion for creating out of the ordinary costumes. Despite my costumes being so diverse from each other, I have thrived when creating my fantasy Sea Goddess which has a heavy use of textiles within the costume and props, I’ve also thoroughly enjoyed making my third year costume of Mr. Todd from Beatrix Potter with the head and tail, and tailoring skills I learnt whilst on this project. I love experimenting with new techniques, fabrics and textiles. I am always eager to learn and use my initiative when problem solving.Referees:

Additional skills:
Mask Making and Sculpting
For one of my final costumes in my third year I recreated Beatrix Potter’s Mr. Todd for my interpretation project. I sculpted the head from clay and moulde varaform around to create the actual head as it is lightweight. The varaform was the foundation of the head which I then began adding fur too. (See image on the back)
Corsetry and Historical Underwear
I have made a 1900’s S-shape corset and longline corset. I have made a large crinoline, bustles and petticoats
Dying and Printing
I have used dying throughout many of my projects, I dyed the green suit for Mr. Todd, a 19010’s Evening Gown and also the Dye on the over skirt of my design piece, the sea goddess. This included sprinkling many dyes onto my fabric and letting the colours run and bleed into each other when wet but not merge too much. I printed the bottom of my second year design piece (seen in my online portfolio) for La Traviata, to make it appear asif a disease is spreading up the dress.
Sourcing
When working on 2Mad to be Normal2 I had limited stock to source costumes from to create a character I was given for a role in the film.
Flat Pattern Cutting and Cutting on the stand
Throughout my A Levels, Foundation Degree and Degree I have worked on the flat and on the stand. I have knowledge in draping, following instructions from books on flat pattern cutting and also block making.
Plate Tutu Making
I attended a 3 day workshop and was taught how to construct a plate tutu, I made one with a zig-zag edge which symbolises the character is evil.
Breaking Down
I had to break down and age fishing costumes on set for Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbots music video “I Don’t see Them”
Fabric Manipulation
I have experimented with numerous textile techniques looking at free hand machine embroidery, stitch work, smocking, heat manipulation, shibori and various other techniques. I have used a lot of beading techniques throughout my costumes and also made a fabric manipulated spine in my second year design project.
Tailoring
I constructed a tailored suit consisting of trousers, shirt, waistcoat and tie inspired by the 1920’s Great Gatsby in the second year of my degree.
Millinery and Hemp Wig Making
I have made hats for different projects, including my second year historical bustle dress. I also took part in a work shop and learnt how to make a hemp wig.
Props
I have made a prop for my third year costume- Amphitrite, Goddess of the Sea. I constructed her staff where I made everything. My third year costume for Mr. Todd is also a prop costume.
