Additional information:
Chris Roe is a composer based in London, working on a variety of projects and collaborating with some of the UK’s most exciting directors and musicians.
Recent projects include a four-part documentary series for Sky/BBC Storyville, 'Murder in Italy (Ignoto Uno)', the award-winning feature documentaries, Death of a Gentleman and Mission Control as well as critically-acclaimed horror film, Charismata. As an arranger/conductor Chris recently worked on a campaign for Cancer Research UK, arranging Vivaldi's 'Spring' for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with a third of the notes missing!
With a background ranging from studying composition at the Royal College of Music, exploring electronic/computer music in Paris, to playing keyboard in the 'Superfly Soul Collective' Chris’ music covers a range of genres and has been described as “brilliantly unnerving” and “highly energetic”. Chris is represented by SMA Talent.
A keen collaborator, Chris has worked percussionist Joby Burgess on a new piece for vibraphone and the rare ‘aluminium harp’, and is also composer in residence with Front Foot Theatre, as well as founder of ANIMA, an 8-piece ensemble bringing together experimental live music with film.
Listed as one of Sound and Music’s New Voices 2015 as part of the British Music Collection, Chris has been nominated for a British Composer Award 2015 for his orchestral work In Search of Strategy, broadcast on BBC Radio 3. In the film world, Chris’ score for the The Palace, reached the finals of the Peer Raben Award at Soundtrack Cologne, and he was a prize winner in the Oticons International Film Music Competition.
Music professional:
With a diverse musical background, playing classical piano/violin from an early age, studying contemporary composition at the Royal College of Music, electronic music in Paris and playing keyboards in the 70’s cover band Superfly Soul Collective, Chris is an individual and versatile composer, able to write and record his own music in a wide array of styles.
Described as both 'cooly understated' and 'passionate and energetic', Chris's music is able to cut to the emotional core of the scene, no matter what genre.
