A prayer for the umpire

2009, 16 minutes

A dark comedy about the struggle of a Little League umpire who must overcome crazed parents, unstable coaches and post-game harassment that reaches a point of no-return.

A day at the Little League baseball game turns from good spirited competition to all out hell when nineteen year old umpire Jeremy Evans is dropped into the middle of a feud between two head coaches. Coach Doug Hermanson and Coach Mark Swisher have always had it in for each other, but it was not until Jeremy became sandwiched in between the two that the rivalry turned vicious. While the kids just try to play, Jeremy is left dealing with a coach in mid-life crisis battling his rival who is clearly too old to have any kids on the team. All this accompanied by repetitive officiating requests from the pitcher's attractive mother starts to wear on Jeremy as things become increasingly physical on the field. When tempers flare and the game reaches a point where play is no longer possible, it is up to Jeremy to decide if this he will continue to let this parental abuse continue, or place his own safety in jeopardy.
