Set in 1830's. Katherine Cranborn, daughter of a wealthy landowner, is fiercely independent and modern in her thought. Her father and convention expect a marriage to renowned marksman, Dedrick Hulbert. But Katherine and cavalryman John Rayverne are already desperately and secretly in love. When Hulbert discovers their rendezvous he challenges John to a duel. A contest John cannot possibly win. Hulbert will withdraw on one condition; Katherine must agree to marry him.
