Acting Grown Up

2011, 18 minutes

Meet Jim. He's like a child in a grown man's body. Meet Sarah. She looks after Jim. He doesn't make it easy.

Acting Grown Up follows a weekend in the life of Jim, a young man with special needs, and his sister Sarah, who looks after him. It opens with 8mm cine footage of a boy growing up and the arrival of his baby sister. We are then introduced to the adult brother and sister, Jim and Sarah. We realize that the little boy has grown into a man with learning disabilities, whose parents have died and who is cared for by his younger sister. We see Sarah treating Jim to a fun day out and a special dinner. After a long day of fun, Sarah reminds Jim he has to get up early and tucks him into bed. The following day, Sarah struggles to get Jim up and ready to go out. He seems to be making it as difficult as possible to leave the house. Why is he being so awkward? Where is he going?
