Apollo and the Continents

Film installation inspired by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo’s famous large fresco ceiling 'Apollo and the Continents'
Philip Haas, the American filmmaker, was commissioned by the Kimbell Art Museum to create five film installations for the museum inspired by works in the collection. The installation was titled 'Butchers, Dragons, Gods & Skeletons'. In 'Apollo and the Continents' (the most elaborate and technically challenging of his installations), Haas combined filmed images projected on both walls and ceiling with real architectural elements, responding in his own terms to the spectacular, playful illusionism of a Tiepolo ceiling.
