Battle for Britain

2010, 9 minutes

This English language short film aims to be a funny, suspenseful and thought provoking 9-minute experience.

Mr. KAZIMIERZ “KAZ” ROGULSKI, 101, lives alone in Oxford in a house that time forgot, since his beloved wife’s death. One chilly summer day, KAZ sets off for a walk to go and feed the pigeons on Oriel Square. An encounter with young STEVEN GILLESPIE leads to the scooter ride of KAZ’ life. Soon the old man invites his new friend into his home for tea. This quickly turns into a vodka-soaked birthday celebration, and KAZ proudly admits it’s his 101st birthday. The old man begins to doze off. Suddenly STEVEN does the unthinkable and steals KAZ’ wallet from the table. Just as STEVEN is heading out of the front door, KAZ grabs him in a bear hug and restrains him by the little finger. Humiliated, STEVEN is forced to listen to the old man’s life story; we learn that KAZ survived the Russian Gulag and fought as a pilot in the Battle of Britain. Steven is moved by KAZ’ words but is fearful when the doorbell rings, signalling the arrival of the Police. Will KAZ let his remorseful young attacker off the hook?
