CAPTAIN DELANO of an American sealer and general tradesman ship is aboard the ‘San Dominick’, having spied it from his own ship erratically trying to harbour on the coast of Chile, thinking it in need of help. He has been told by the ship's surviving crew and passengers about their disastrous journey, they declare being almost out of food and water. This story is corroborated by the ship’s captain Spaniard BENITO CERENO, inseparable from his African manservant BABO, who provides for him, full time, both nursing assistance and toilette support. However, the truth of the situation is different to what CAPTAIN DELANO has been told...
