Bound Unlocked

2018, 10 minutes

In 1940s Ireland, a young woman struggles to bury her dead baby, which was born before her marriage, against the opposition of the Catholic Church.

In 1940s Ireland, Rose Curran has married the father of her child, but the child unfortunately has died before it can be baptised. Citing the rules then prevailing in the Catholic Church, the local priest refuses to give the child a funeral, or bury it in consecrated ground. Rejecting the stigma of burying her baby in a cemetery reserved for 'bastards', she buries the child herself, using some holy water given to her by the priest as a token of compassion.
