Brixton Rock

2017, 12 minutes

"I'm Brenton...I'm your son". After 18 years, that intro was always gonna come with explosions.

Teenager Brenton Brown has held questions about his origins for long 18 years. Now, he wants answers from the mother who he believes abandoned him. After receiving her contact details from his social worker, Brenton Brown gives her a visit, with explosive consequences. Adapted from the 1999 novel from award-winning author Alex Wheatle, Brixton Rock Short Film sits firmly in the south London enclave of Brixton, which the Windrush Generation tried to make a home-from-home. Contemporarily, with the ensuing onslaught of gentrification in the region, the film highlights the historical challenges of the protagonists' lives as they navigate the myriad mores of the 'Mother Country'.
