Cafe Shakespeare

2009, 20 minutes

Shakespeare monologues set in a cafe.

Henry is gearing up the troops for a jumble sale and getting patriotic. Hamlet finds a moment of deep reflection with his to-be-or-not-to-be tea. Shylock sees the irony and enjoys the power of suddenly being popular when one who hates him needs something. Beth keeps rubbing her hands, talking about blood and doesn't look very well. Portia is appealing to Shylock's better nature, because she doesn't want to see someone suffer out of spite. Five moments of emotion, tension and reflection captured as the cafe clock ticks and tea is poured.
