Chips

2012, 5 minutes

Mother and autistic daughter both struggle for independence on a weekend in Brighton.

Stressed full time carer mum takes her 22 yr old daughter to Brighton for the weekend. Rosie (the daughter) is frustrated by how her mum wants her to 'grow up' and take care of herself more, but that she still wants to baby her and withhold her independence. Rosie demands chip. Mum (Karen) says no and they go to the hotel. Rosie disappears in the hotel lobby with a strange man. Karen panics and rushes through Brighton trying to find Rosie. She finds her and with the man who has in-fact just bought her some chips as a kind gesture. Mother and child both challenge their dependence on each other and walk away a bit more optimistic about the world.
