Curtain Call

2010, 30 minutes

Drama

Jacob Carnaby, once a star, now starved of fame, wants to be in the limelight once again. Between heart attacks, drinking, drug abuse and time in rehab Jacob wishes he could be recognised as the critically acclaimed stage actor he once was. Unfortunately, time is running out for Jacob. Whilst in hospital after suffering yet another heart attack Jacob is diagnosed with stage four lung cancer meaning he truly is on borrowed time. Knowing he hasn't long left Jacob calls on his agent and best friend, Timothy Rivers for help to make his final wish come true. After failing to find Jacob a final show Timothy comes up with another plan that will mean his name will be remembered in years to come. After reading about other dead celebrities that have met less than glamorous endings Timothy believes that the only way Jacob will be talked about in years to come is to follow suit. End it himself. Take his own life. Be in control. As Jacob toys with the idea it becomes more apparent that he is not of sound mind. His fractured state of mental health is highlighted by his obsessions and the fact that Timothy appears to come and go as he pleases. Is Timothy even real or is he just the creation of a fragile mind? If this is the case, has he just convinced himself to do something awful?
