A German Soldier questions his allegiance to the Third Reich in the final months of World War II

Set in 1944 Belarus during World War II, this is the story of a German Officer who deserts the army in hopes of going home before being completely dehumanized by war. Forming an unlikely friendship with an orphaned Russian boy soldier he refuses to execute, he goes on the run from his company when an act of self-sacrifice leads to his ultimate redemption.
