Diverse Nation

2011, 60 minutes

Programme about Cultural Diversity in British TV & Film

Diverse Nation goes behind the veil of the Cultural Diversity Awards 2011, hosted by Gok Wan. It rips up the award show format to provide revealing, intimate films on the nominees as well as on famous faces from the world of media. Nel Hedayat breaks down her journey to Afghanistan for BBC3's Women, Weddings, War and Me, and the programme meets the producer of Channel 4's My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, and takes a stroll through Brixton Market with Wunmi Mosako from I Am Slave. The film also goes back to school with Reggie Yates, takes a walk down Brick Lane with Konnie Huq, visits Graeae theatre with Cerrie Burnell and Stoke Mandeville with Ade Adepitan, to understand their paths to success. Diverse Nation provides a fascinating insight into the workings of the British TV industry, representing those that appear in front of as well as behind the camera, and demonstrating how committed TV is to representing diversity in all its aspects.
