Eurgh

2017, 3 minutes

13-year-old Marija just moved from Lithuania to England; now her mum is pregnant and Marija feels like her life will never be the same again.

The film opens with a happy family, Marija, her younger brother and her mother in a riverside park. Suddenly, the mother breaks the news that she is going to have a baby. The younger brother smiles naively whilst Marija’s face fills up with tears of disgust. ‘Eurgh’ she says and starts walking away, whilst her mother helplessly calls after her. There follows a montage of Marija striding through unfamiliar, alienating small-town England landscapes; finally, she is sitting on a bench at a bus stop in the dark. Her worried mum appears with her brother and the film closes with a scene of gentle reconciliation.
