HOT/COLD weaves an elliptical, dream-like narrative of four adults and one child in the wake of an affair that may or may not have even happened. While they are stuck in a purgatory of uncertainty, the film's non-linear structure encourages you to determine whether their fates are justified. Past, present, and future are displaced as we see four different women of four different ages simultaneously mirroring one another's failures and victories, all inextricably linked by the lone male character's observing presence. Featuring a haunting, minimalist string and piano score by Fort Worth musician Clint Niosi, the film quietly explores the tension between themes of choice, responsibility, loneliness, and disillusionment. The story breaks media boundaries as it can be seen as a live performance piece, a short installation triptych set for gallery exhibition, and finally, a feature length film.
