The film is a period piece set in the woodlands of Medieval England - during the era of the Crusades. Inspired by Islamic fables, the story follows a pious man named Samuel who hears word of pagans worshipping a tree in the forest. Outraged by this heresy he goes off to cut down this tree. On his journey he encounters the devil, who is determined to stop him by any means necessary.
