In The Shadow Of Eli

2012, 20 minutes

A period drama about two sisters relationship destroyed by the death of one of their sons.

It is 1919 and Catherine stews in the solace of the cove where memories of the lost are as prominent as the rocks that line the coast. An internal conflict lies within this seemingly tranquil landscape. Catherine’s son died on Pulpit Rock, the rock that stands tall in the isolated coastline. Since that day Catherine has been desperate yet unable to leave the place behind; for to do so would mean severing the only connection with Eli there is left. For her sister Beth, it is a nightmare she is all too willing to forget. Beth is consumed with guilt over Eli’s accidental death, and has subsequently hidden herself away from Catherine and the daunting cove in which she resides. There is a deadlock between the two sisters. Beth cannot face Pulpit Rock and Catherine cannot leave its comforting shadow. It is now Eli’s would-be birthday and Catherine is at breaking point. Confronted with the dilemma of how to resolve the conflict with her sister, she has been driven to extreme measures. After disappearing for so long, what is guaranteed to bring Beth back, and what will make her fully understand Catherine’s loss? Driven by consuming grief, Catherine embarks on a dangerous game of manipulation.
