Little Hard

2016, 30 minutes

Little Hard was born out of the silence that lies within the depths of mental illness

Lo’s life is repetitive and relentless. We follow her coasting through her days with an unflinching stillness. She has reached a low that feels impossible to overcome. She is resigned to her illness and the only light she sees is death. The guilt over missing a friend’s birthday catapults Lo into a manic episode. She blacks out, and wakes up in Wales, at the beach. The beach plays an important character in the film, representing the choice between living and dying. At Lo’s first encounter with the beach, she gazes on a sea that’s ready to swallow her up without a trace. Book closed, no questions asked, done. Her impulse to go in is interrupted by a passerby, Mark
