A promise is a film of the three young women whose lives penetrates the war. Mona (Laura Birn) has just written a matriculation studies and dreams of a veterinarian in Oslo, Anna (Karoliina Vanne) are planning a wedding and their own family, Ruth (Hanna Lekander) has decided to study theology. But how to faith in the future, when shattered all around? Promise to describe young women's yearning for freedom, dreams and growing up at a time when Finland was a war against the Soviet Union. It tells of women who pushed aside their dreams and gave a lotta promise to his father's country. These Lotta Svärd organization were part of women work at home and war fronts was critical to a small country, the fight for independence. The film follows five years, Mona, Anna and Ruth's life from 1939 to 1944.
