Meander

2012, 15 minutes

Meander is a short film about unconditional love and escapism.

Jonathan has always been one of a kind. He is loving, patient and selfless; the type of person to do anything for anyone. In particular his child hood sweetheart, Rosie, who he gives everything that her heart desires. He is always thinking of other people, that's probably why he is a Child Therapist. Helping people is what he does. Yet, all the while Jonathan has wanted but one thing for himself; a family of his own. Jonathan's dream came true with the birth of his only daughter, Bethany. However, their time together as a family was short lived, as Bethany was lost. A year has passed and the pain is still too much for the broken family. Rosie now bordering agoraphobic, relies on her husband for constant support. Being the philanthropist he is, Jonathan has no time to grieve. With tensions rising and the couple drifting slowly apart, the bond they once had rests upon the edge of a knife. It is only when an unexpected arrival of a young girl with a supernatural power comes into their lives, that the couple can have their closure. Our story starts with Jonathan meeting up with Jane; an old patient of his. She too has always yearned for a family of her own, having had a troubled childhood in and out of foster care. Now aged 17, Jane is being pursued for the special power she possesses. After being shown this power, Jonathan's paternal instincts kick in and he decides to protect her. The pair manages to find a hiding place from Jane’s hunters. However Jane can't run forever, just like Jonathan can't from his past.
