'Michael' is a Chinese guy who was adopted by British parents. He's decided he wants to 'go back' to China to discover his roots.
It's the night before he goes home. He argues with him Mum - who he's never really bonded with. She's a kind of uptight business type. But she's got her reasons.He has sensible discussions with his Dad, whom he really loves. Dad has never been home much as he's spent most of his career travelling. His boyfriend pops over to be with him on his final night.
