Only This

Ducumentary on Rupert Brooke

With the centenary of the First World War fast approaching, 'Only This' explores the most famous work of Rupert Brooke, The Soldier, and discovers the man behind the prose. 'Only This' takes us on a journey down the river and into the life of this early war poet. The visual narrative of the film is centred on the man rowing the boat. However as the film progresses we are given glimpses into the man’s past and possible future as he makes his voyage between dawn and dusk. 'Only This', much like The Soldier, explores themes of patriotism, war and death. However, at its heart, this film reflects back on the character of a man who spent his free time roaming the countryside of England and, perhaps more importantly, was able to paint in words the hopes and fears of the country at the start of World War I.
