Set in Salford during World War 1, it is the first in a trilogy of films (the other being filmed in Preston and Nelson) telling the stories of local war heroes. In this first story, Elizabeth has seen her long-term boyfriend (Richard) go off to war, and now must persuade Richard's teenage brother George (who's under age) from following his brother. The third in the 'Pals For Life' film trilogy is set in the town of Nelson. Henry, war veteran and father to Archie, receives official news from the towns Mayor which means he must send his son and the local scout group off to war. The story is based on true accounts.
